DIY and component replacement is not easy
1. Avoid Exposure to Bright Lights
Yes, you heard that right. You might be thinking when the laptop itself emits so much light, how a strong light can cause harm? It is proven scientifically that, strong lights in the working environment will accelerate the ageing process of the screen & battery, as excess heat triggers accelerated electrochemical reactions. So, it is best to put your laptop in a place away from bright sunlight.
So, working with your laptop under an open sky might be fun, but it might damage your laptop screen very soon. Just ensure that either clouds are covering the sun or you have under a shade!
2. Be Mindful of Battery’s Charge & Discharge Cycles
Just like the tyres of our cars, all laptop batteries are built to last a certain number of charge cycles. A charge cycle equals a full discharge down to 0% and then charges back to 100%. A discharge to 50% and then recharge back to 100% would equal half a cycle.
Over a period, every charge & discharge cycle decreases a battery’s capacity from its initial estimates, meaning that the fewer times you drain it, the longer the battery lasts, assuming that all other things are the same.
So, anything overcharging and over-discharging will severely affect the battery’s longevity. Don’t keep your laptop in continuous charging while working or otherwise. Be mindful and remember to turn it off as soon the charge reaches 95 to 100%.
3. Colin and other Liquid Cleaners Can be Dangerous
It’s a common thing to assume many things. On such assumption is that regular Colin and other glass and surface cleaning agents are good for cleaning laptops too. It has been proven over time that; regular usage of glass and surface cleaning agents is harmful to laptop screens and keyboards. Even though the laptop displays are made with glass, they have electronic circuits attached to them and keyboards do take liquids inside.
So, it is best suggested to use a very soft and dry cloth to clean the laptop surfaces including the screen.
4. Don’t Save Files on C Drive & Defragment Weekly
Many people find it easy to save all their files in a C drive, mainly on the Desktop and in folders of Documents, Photos, Videos, etc. Experts always suggest you partition your hard drive and use a C drive only to run OS and other applications. Use other partitioned drives for saving work and entertainment files.
This is important for two reasons. One is that you can lose all your files if the hard drive crashes. If you have multiple drives, then, even if the hard drive crashes, you can format only the C drive and install the OS fresh & access files of other drives.
The second reason is that, when the system tries to run apps and store files from a C drive, it puts a lot of stress on one section. This will slow down the laptop. Also, it's very difficult to organize files on the desktop.
If you want to know how to partition your hard drive and defragment, talk to our experts.
5. DIY and component replacement is not easy
To lower the weight of the laptops, the hardware components are continuously being integrated into one big unit. This makes component-finding tasks difficult and expensive. To save costs many are trying to replace the component on their own with help of a YouTube video & an unauthorized component.
We at Lapserve receive so many cases of damaged laptops due to Do-It-Yourself (DIY) attempts, in a condition that needs a lot of effort to bring it back to life.
So, don’t trust unsolicited advice on Laptop care and service. Trust expert technicians, repair and service centres and authorized service centres.
